2022.01.28 00:31 spigotlips I'm new to the Oculus 2 and might need some pointers
So the literature that comes with the headset is beyond vague. I've got some blur on my headset and don't know if it's normal, my eyes(prescription), or the lense spot. I adjusted the lenses to the best picture fyi. The game I'm talking about is onward. I've got such bad quality and can't see enemies past a distance. I can play super hot no problem. But also some "vr videos" on YouTube are garbage quality. So I'm wondering if it's just bad provider quality or if I'm doing something wrong. Other games work fine so I'm confused.

2022.01.28 00:31 LiteratureUnique7819 My birthday made me realize how much I don’t want to exist anymore.
Today was my birthday and I couldn’t bring myself to celebrate it.
Didn’t want to do anything special with friends. Didn’t want to make a huge fuss out of it. Didn’t expect presents or cards from anyone. I just want to disappear. But here I am, fighting desperately to keep my head above the surface. I feel like I’m drowning.
It’s not that my birthday has been a disappointment. But I just don’t have it in me to face another year of life, of anguish, of emotional torture, of destroyed hopes, of major disappointments.
I can’t bring myself to face yet another year of just existing.

2022.01.28 00:31 OliveGreenAmandine What exactly is the function of management in this place?
Not trying to be snide; I am genuinely curious. I'm new to the industry, just got off a 20+ year stint as a chef/restaurant manager. I work in meat. We do the par list for the day. Be which is logged in a tablet and checked off. We do the order. Put up the truck. Do price reductions. Shrink. Monitor our own breaks. Schedule is computer generated. Time adjustments are done by us. Etc etc etc. Other departments tell the same story. I'll go days without seeing a lead even, let alone a manager. I saw the store director for the first time in my fifth week. Just, genuinely curious as to what the function of the managers are. As a chef I did orders, inventory, hiring, firing, training, put up trucks, wrote and designed menus and worked the line

2022.01.28 00:31 Benjbear Overcoming Emotional Challenges in Writing
The more I write, the more I come to think that the biggest challenge is psychological (what a breakthrough!). While many other endeavours I've pursued have of course taken some motivation/willpower, nothing compares to the emotional battle of writing. To a certain extent, writing makes many other skills feel so "simple" in that it's so nice and reassuring that there's an obvious road-map. As a musician, the steps to learning to drum, for example, really aren't that complicated - there's no need to start getting all existential when you're hammering out paradiddles. Writing of course has many "tools" which you can learn to use, but a huge portion of it is a very personal thing, where you have to shape something from the emotions/ideas within you. Not only can that be challenging, but the stuff in you might need to grow before its even worth turning into a novel.
For me, this looks less like procrastination/perfectionism, and more like feeling empty and stressed when what I want to say/create doesn't feel within grasp. I constantly have to take moments to pause, reassure myself that one day, after practice and dedication to the craft, I'll find myself closer to being able to grasp my goal. I also find that reading beautiful novels helps me stay stable, because it makes the goal a bit more clear. Though I've been happy hitting my writing goals and such, it can still be emotionally exhausting at times.
I'm wondering if there are any resources out there that share advice on this aspect of writing. I recently partook in a group interview of a Canadian author (David Macfarlane), and it was very insightful hearing the emotional process between his work. I'm lucky enough to get to do this every week in a course I'm taking, but it's making me crave more!
Also interested to hear everyone's thoughts of course.

2022.01.28 00:31 _angelita_ I’m not sure what to do
I don’t have a job and need one. I tried starting as a waitress but had a terrible panic attack today and feel like I can’t go back because of my anxiety. I’m trying to search for more jobs right now. I don’t have any money. I’m just looking for guidance on what to do so I can do it and get into a better position.

2022.01.28 00:31 alexmitarpx My journey from construction worker to filmmaker.
Here is how it all started!
I used to be a labourer in constructions and one day after work with my clothes all dirty I sat down on the steps of Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain in Central London, Piccadilly Circus.
There was a big screen with commercials playing in front of me (if you're from London and you've been to Piccadilly Circus you know what screen I'm talking about) I was honestly so amazed by the quality of those commercials watching with my eyes wide open. Then, some weird depressing questions came through my mind (wtf am I doing here all dirty and with no money in my pocket?) I hated those days.
A week later at work an old man dressed in white overalls came inside the warehouse and started sweeping the floor with me. It was a warm day. At 10am I went for breakfast, bought a cold drink for the old man, and went back to cleaning. He thanked me and slowly but surely lunch time was approaching. I went for the second break and met my colleagues from that site.
I was worried the old man would replace me and I'd lose my job so I asked: who's the old labourer that came in today, is he going to replace me? They all started laughing and said... The old man is not a labourer, he's the owner of all the buildings that surround us including the one you're cleaning. My jaw dropped!
2 weeks later he invited me in his office to help him fix a door, gave me a cold drink, and told me that he spoke with the painters and decorators from that site to teach me how to become a decorator so he can increase my salary and that's what happened. 2 weeks later my rate was raised from £8 phr to £14 phr even though I wasn't a decorator yet. My skills quickly improved and I finally managed to save money so I can buy my first video camera.
Now I create commercial videos for big brands and sometimes you can see them in the underground and in stores. They haven't been played on the big screen in Piccadilly Circus yet but you never know what tomorrow might bring. Love you all!
